No, I junked that thing last year when I first started cleaning up the truck. It slid inside the barrel shaped box just inside the engine bay from the knockout. It necked down to less than 1 1/2" diameter so I figured life was better without it.

No, I junked that thing last year when I first started cleaning up the truck. It slid inside the barrel shaped box just inside the engine bay from the knockout. It necked down to less than 1 1/2" diameter so I figured life was better without it.

May have been a silencer. Honestly, getting rid of that type of thing really does not make a difference, just makes things noisier.

Necking down an intake to 1 1/2" in diameter will definitely create a loss of power, thus why I removed it. You can only draw so much air through a certain sized tube in an intake...

But if it necks down and then back up to size, it may well have increased air velocity...doesn't matter either way, as you have a standard air cleaner.
