Stripped steering gear box mount

Hello again guys. I'm having some terrible luck here. Stripped out a mount hole on the steering gear box trying to tighten it 75 ft lbs like the manual says. Are these values in the repair manual high? I turned it down to 60 ft lbs for the remaining 2 (the first one took 75lbs). How can I fix this? I have enough room to put a nut & washer on the other side I think.

Is it one of the 3 holes that goes all the way through? If so, get a longer bolt and put a Stover / pinch lock nut on it. My box has good threads but I put nuts on the 3 bolts just for good insurance.

Yeah it goes all the way. Awesome this seems like the easiest route.

I always use a longer bolt and a lock nut on the steering box. I have had boxes in the past with stripped out threads.

Longer bolt and lock nut. Make sure to use a hi quality bolt and nut with the right grade.
Nice chassis, looks real good.

They don't look much better than a helicoil to me. I started using timeserts and they seem to be a lot better thread replacement.

Military has used these when the replacement part is not immediately available. I like them better than Heli-
coil inserts.

That nice looking chassis looks like it has plenty of room for a BBC!

To me they seem like a good solid threaded insert. Where a helicoil is more like replacement threads and not much beyond that.

These are called Keenserts, made of different mtls., SS steel etc, They come in thin and thickwall sizes. Od is standard thread sizes IE 1/2-13, 3/8-16 and etc. Any industrial store has them. I would us a thickwall steel. Literally have installed thousands of these, Mainly used in non Ferris applications where bolt torque would strip out the existing material.

Look at the chart! gives tap drill data, removal data, (yes they can be removed and new one reinstalled, and etc.) I always have an assortment of different sizes, long way to town. Just so you can know how they work.
