Stock fuel pump has a vent line. Edelbrock don’t.

Hey Guys, Chrisnofix here.

I changed the quadrajet out for an Edelbrock and changed to an Edelbrock fuel pump. The stock fuel pump had 3 lines one being a vent line I believe from or to the tank? And the Edelbrock fuel pump has just the 2. What do I do with the vent line ?

There's a fuel inlet, a fuel outlet, and a return line. The small line, I think 5/16's, is the return. Just cap it off so it doesn't get dirty, in case you need it later down the road. Then leave it alone.

if you want to keep your return functionality, which i recommend, you can install this

vertically installed off the pump-to-carburetor, then the small nippple would feed into the return

^^^60s to early 70s Pontiac/Chevrolet big block fuel filter. Expensive now and getting tough to find. I found a much cheaper much newer alternate fuel filter. Not the Wix 34040 or 041 can't remember off the top of my head will try to remember to look for the box on Wednesday.

I used this filter so I could maintain the return line.

How does it work? good?
how much flow does the return port spit out if you were to use it in a gas can? Just kinda curious

Technically its not ac delco, its a reproduction meant to make a car underhood look original. But the one posted above is very good!

it appears to be the type youd use WITH a return line, just have the port on top of the main so its not draining your filter empty when not running

There is another type thats meant to be used with a fuel out, and a vapor return only kind of tank.

It has worked without any problems since I installed it last summer. I have no idea what the flow rate is in the return line. During installation I briefly ran the engine and verified flow but that was it.

The filter is fed by an electric Holley pump mounted back at the tank. It feeds an Edelbrock 1406 carb on a 454 taken from a 71 Chevelle.

The return on those and the 33041,same filter different size in and out 3/8 vs. 5/16th, they have a restrictor in the return line so too much doesn't return. We used to make a bypass at the shop using a simple tee fitting, straight leg through and through to the carb. Side leg we would put a piece of brass in the hose and drill it until we were returning what we wanted to return. A simple lawn mower fuel shut off valve could be the restrictor and be adjustable. Have to give @bucket credit for the lawn mower fuel shut off as restrictor idea. I don't remember the size of the 33040,34041 or size we drilled the brass, but I'm sure a Google search would get an answer .I know it was bigger than .060 and smaller than .090 when using a mechanical pump. We were bringing down 45 PSI injected pumps to 5 Lbs.
