Starter fried

Yesterday i was using the blue bomb to pull a post pounder and everything was going as good as it could untill i turned it off to take a break. Went to start it and i wouldnt even get a click. Pull started fine though. Pulled the starter off and tested it. Its toast. Perfect time to get a mini starter i figure. Ive read that the starters for the newer s10 is the best way to do it cheaply. Do i need different bolts? And is there anything else to take into consideration?

Thanks. After pricing a starter at the parts store i was just gonna go through summit. But this is definitely the way im gonna go. What sucks is i leave for work on Monday so im gonna have to wait to install it. But at least it will be waiting for me when i get home.

Its too bad your in SD i have a used one from my ol 350 id sell ya cheap but shipping would probly hurt.

Just put one in my '73. $21 bucks at pull a part and works like a champ! Mounting bolts are shorter for the mini tho. Glad I snagged those too.

Be sure you get bolts with the 'crosshatch' pattern on them or, you can drill the head for safety wire.

Hmm, there’s a guy in my hometown who rebuilds starters and alternators that’ll last indefinitely so I’ll keep my big ole direct drive starters and Delcotron alternators as long as I’ve got someone to tinker on them and do a good job. The gear reduction ones are cool, though.

I know there are pix up that show the contrast between 'old style' and mini-starters and have read about the mounting bolt differences.

You'll notice a hole in the upper bolt. There's one inn the lower one too. I drilled those for safety wire.

5" = old style
4 - 5/8" = mini

Just an FYI - I installed this exact starter on my '83 2 weeks ago and it already has a dead spot on it. I have to tap it w/ a pipe or hammer in order to get it started. It even did it this morning when the truck was cold. Buyer beware.

Yeah those cheap starters are garbage. I got the acdelco brand for a 1995 tahoe from rockauto. High quality and reliable. Get the bolts too
