I have not personally, but where my shop is there is a guy that has one. Seems to work pretty good for him.

I had looked into them and considered getting one. I’m still on the fence about them.

The pros are you deflate it, and should be able to get it packed up in a tote or two and be out of the way when not needed.

Cons are the size, to get one large enough to fit a complete truck inside the price goes up a bit, most the larger ones have a second room that is used as a “mixing room” or airlock. The second blower blows air into that room, then through filters in the partition into the booth area. Most of them advertise the total footprint, but in reality four or five feet needs to be deducted from that dimension due to that room.

Same goes for the width, due to the diameter of the inflated columns the inside width is a foot or two narrower than the outside is. Not really an issue for doing panels or a smaller vehicle. Can get tight quick with a full-size pickup or car. This is based around the 13x23 ones.

Also since the blowers need to be running to keep it from deflating, if you have less than ideal electric, there is the potential to trip a breaker and have the booth deflate on your fresh sprayed surface.

If using outdoors they can turn into a greenhouse in the sun/heat.

I still think they are neat and a clever solution. If you look on autobody101 there’s a couple of guys using them and seem to like them.

A few years ago there was a sweet old Power Wagon at the car show. The guy built a make shift paint booth out of 2x4s and tarps to paint everything on the driveway. I thought I had some photos of it but I must have deleted them. You'd never known it was shot like that unless the owner told you. It was immaculate.

I plan to buy one, possibly from Vevor. I plan to build a temporary PVC frame when it's inflated just in case power goes out as I've heard a few horror stories about them collapsing on fresh paint.

Build your own. Emt( conduit ) and tarps. Much more versatile and stores easy. I'll try to find a link for the fittings. Ventilation, blow through using fans and furnace filters. Do not draw through. I made my fittings using short sections of next larger size conduit, easy if you can cut and weld. If you make your own grind the galvanize away from the joints, weld outside and hold your breath. Welding galvanized creates cyanide gas.

I thought about just building one also, until i saw the inflatable ones which are a lot easier, i did not however consider losing power and haveing it fall. Good point.

I painted a truck in one of those carport canopy tents a few years ago. Wasn't the perfect conditions but it worked. I did it open air but have seen others improve there's by cutting holes and attaching a couple box fans and filters onto it. Found some random examples pics online.

What is your intended use for the booth?

A booth won’t necessarily make or break a paint job, lots of very good work has been done outdoors or even in dirt floor machine sheds and such, and less than stellar work has been done in state of the art downdraft booths.

I did the roof of my dart in the driveway a couple years ago, I think it turned out pretty good. The last photos are “off the gun” no cut and buff.

Is your intention to put the booth inside of a building or have it outside when using?

Just to make it clear, this isn’t advocating one way or another, just sharing my thoughts on this subject as I had done a lot of thinking and reading and figuring on what I want to do for my 79.

Your intentions and goals are likely different than mine to some extent.

I had drawn this up last year, in a similar design to a real paint booth, it would be constructed from 2x3 lumber for the walls (potentially with holes drilled in them to lighten them), 1x2 or 1x3 “trusses” all to be sheeted in heavy plastic. The design is meant to be modular and able to be assembled and disassembled. With considerations to maximizing internal space for the given footprint and attention to good filtering and close to proper air movement,

12x16x8(10’ at the highest) with two 2x2x8 filter stacks in the corners using commercially available booth filters, with two 12” tube style ventilation fans, would be piped to outside. Intake filters would also be commercially available booth intake filters.

The 12x16 size is with the intention of doing the painting as components, not to put an entire vehicle in. That was before I got a four post lift, so I really need to reevaluate and see if that size will work how I want it to or if it might be more better to go bigger.
