I noticed after I took off the tape after I painted them that they are different. Is there a certain side that each one goes on and do you guys know what side they go on?

They are supposed to be the same. I'd guess one is '73-'75, while the other is '76-up. They take a different inner bearing IIRC.

Then I don't know why there different only one will fit in each rotor, this is from a 1986 axle, so your saying that I got two different years of rotors and spindles?

I'm surprised I caught that myself, I think I just glanced at them and noticed it.

What exact axle is it then? 10 bolt? Get the code off it?

I was wondering if maybe someone snatched one off a Dana 44 and maybe that's the difference. I've never compared the 2 though.

Its a 10 bolt, Where is the code on the front axle? I found three, one on the pumpkin, the spring mounting part, and the ball joint part.

You're saying one of them will only fit in one of the hubs? If they both fit in each hub, does one have a little play in it?

One of the spindles does not fit in one rotor, the picture shows how far down it will go, the other spindle will fit it both rotors obviously, but I'm sure on one rotor it just rides on the seal. Then when you get em in the right rotor, they fit perfect.

A caliper micrometer will tell you the difference between the 2 inner bearing races, where the bearing rides on the spindle. I think the digital cheapie micrometers are only about $30 at harbor freight, they work good enough for something like this. My guess would be there is a year break for that inner bearing, probably 81/82.

I'll have to invest into a caliper soon. So then if I change out the races, would I be able to use the same spindles, I'm asuming rotors are the same from 73-87?

the one on the left doesnt have much room for the seal to ride on you might have to accomodate for it by tapping the seal in further otherwise that seal wont last a week.

Rotors are the same, but hubs are not. My guess is that at some point in time there was a bearing failure on one side that ruined the spindle and hub. Then somebody installed a hub and spindle from a mid 70's truck. I've got spare spindles and hubs if you want yours to match on both sides.
