Anyone need a 31x10.5r15 spare tire on a bullethole-style rim? I did, and paid $50 for the privilege (rim + mounting/balancing). Figure there has to be someone else running 31x10.5r15s with a spare 235/75r15 that is worried about getting a flat and blowing their diff by running a 31" and 29" at the same time. Let me know if you want it, free if I can get it to you. (if you're especially friendly I'll give you the 2 other Toyo Open Country tires)

Looks like they were made the 46th week of 2015. That's fairly recent for a lot of folks.

That was one of the problems I had when shopping FB for some BFG KO2s, they were all older than my existing tires. I feel like 7 years is getting on in the life of a tire, but I have no problem with a spare that old for some reason

Also I want there to be no deceit here, they're dry rotting/cracking in some places. Again, a reason why they're great spares and not my everyday tires these days

I worked in tire stores for a lot of years and that was the magic number, at 7 years old we were suppose to recommend tires based on age.

My experience has taught me that a poorly treated tire at 5 years old maybe showing signs of dry rot and cracking, where as some tires at 10 or more years old and still free of dry rot inside and out.

IDK what really makes the difference, but it seems tires exposed to a lot sun or parked in mud seems to deteriorate the quickest.

It also seems like newer compounds tend to dry rot faster. Sometimes after just 3 years you can find a substantial amount of minor checking in the rubber.

I left the tire business somewhere around 07 or 08, we did not do them when I was with 76 or the shop I'm at now, but I think your right. I'm not seeing this occur on my own vehicles, but all but one vehicle has General Grabber AT's on it, so I might not have a brand using a new compound. I will say it does seem like we see more dry rotted tires at the shop, but we simply recommend they see a tire store for new tires and don't typically read the DOT code.
