Spare tire carrier? DONE, installed an in bed carrier

Back to working on the 1981 C10 truck. When purchased, the spare tire was just tossed in the bed. I finally paid some attention to the rear under the bed. Appears that I have no spare tire carrier:

Just a busted and bent stud: (and a bad exhaust pipe hanger)

the owners manual shows the "glide out" type of mechanism, and the parts vendors I investigated show a "standard" carrier and the "glide out" carrier. Any idea what I should have had originally? Perhaps the in bed stand up tire holder is better? Thanks for comments

May be an optical illusion but the center brake hose looks short in your first pic

The glide out carrier was an option, so if your truck had that it would show on the RPO sticker. The bed carrier is better for your back. It does steal room from the load area, and if you get a flat with the bed loaded, you may need to remove the load to get it.

Thanks for the observation about the brakes hose. I checked and it has a nice arch towards the rear of the truck, exactly in the same plane as the view from the picture!

Same one I put in my 84. I was thinking of an underbed mount, but then got to thinking. What if I have to change my tire in the rain or miserable type weather? I don't want to be laying in the water, mud etc.
