Trying to decide which trasmission to use when I put my truck back together. It's a 2wd shortbox that came with a sm465 4 speed. The few years I drove it the rear end was geared at 3.73 and it seemed alittle low for freeway speeds. Do any of you have a 465 in your 2wd truck and drive it alot on the highway? If so what are you running for rearend gearing? People keep suggesting to put an auto in it but I have always perferred manual over auto. My intentions for the truck are to lower It and mainly use it for cruising around and going on the occasional long trip down the freeway. Should I stick with the 465 or is it silly to use it for my street truck that never go off-road or tow anything super heavy? The motor I use will most likely be a 383

Depending on budget, there are some options. NV3500 or even a tremic 6 speed. Both will have overdrive.

Since you’re just cruising it, you could just change diff gearing.

Nv3500 if you plan on keeping engine stock
Nv4500 if you plan on ls swap or an engine build
You can even work the nv5600 these days
