Yes, they should punch out, but they will only punch out from the inside out, don't try to punch them through to the inside.
**** ive tried both ways how can i get a press on it if they punch out from the inside? im guessing id have to cut the joint out first?

Ive got an idea i dont have a torch but i do have a plasma cutter im gonna burn that ****** out right down the middle take it to work (theres a press there) and punch out the caps ill let u guys know if it works out it probably wont

Honestly, with a plasma cutter I would try to cut the whole middle of the U-joint out by cutting off under each cap. Then cut the middle of each cap out, then punch them through to the middle once they cool.

thats for both sides front axles
Thats wild... you can get an entire front 10 bolt or D44 front axle for like $50-150 dollars around here. They all have the same part for what you need, 1/2 ton and 3/4 ton, so I'd just get whatever front axle you can find(as a complete axle) and then just take those parts and sell the rest or scrap it.

success! plasma cutter to the rescue even burned the caps through the center and either it was the heat or i weakend them enough but after that they popped right out. new u joint is installed and i realized after I installed it that Napa must have gave me the wrong one because the caps stick out ever so slightly i know they will get hung up on the knuckle going back in i may have to grind the nuckle or the caps a bit but wtf anyways 1 job done thanks for the suggestions guys

You set the 2 ears between 2 peices of metal, so the press is pressing on the ears, not the bottom of the cup, then set a big socket over the top for the top part of the press to sit on, that way as your pressing it, the actual u joint is pressing up on the cup, and the cup will pop into the socket.
Hard to describe, but that's the way I've done it.
