My K5 originally came with cruise control.
Since then, I think the cruise/turn signal controls were replaced with just turn signal and wipers.

I don't know if any of the other components for it are there (don't really know how it works on these years)

The original computer controlled dizzy has been swapped for a HEI unit, if that helps any.

Any ideas?

At one time, my Nova had a vacuum operated cruise control installed in it. Unfortunately, it was removed before I knew what a wrench was.

Anyone know what the cruise system consisted of on the 84s?

i'll have to look... i may have the cruise stuff from my 86 in the garage at my parents house. i remember there being a pod of some sort bolted to the intake, with linkage going to the carb. i'll have to see if i still have it, and what all i removed. might work for you.

Check out wiring and vacuum line diagrams for that year that should give you a general idea of the components and how they were interconnected. My 85 had it on the original drivetrain but most of the underhood pieces are long gone. There is a brake switch that I believe disengages the cruise on mine, up under the dash. I would look into an aftermarket kit (like JC Whitney) rather than recreating the OE set-up.

I'm just trying to see how many of the components for it I have left.

If I only need the steering column part that would be great.

it uses vacuum but i could never get mine to work right!
replaced everything i knew including hoses and the silly thing would work on level ground but for the life of me it never work on slight grades or hills.

I'm guessing it didn't have enough vacuum under load to take it up hill???? :shitsweak:

What would be a cool mod is if you took one from a late model truck out of the junk yard and retro fitted it to work on your 84! You'd probably need some kind of computer control for it but it'd still be a neat mod.

That's OK, maybe the thread bump might bring Pigs ass back for a drop in and update on his chick cars that's he's been buidling. Poor guy has gone from worse to even more worse. Gone from K5 to Pontiac Firechickens, now to Dodges. :nutkick:

I know this post is old as ****, but when you installed your rostra kit did you have to buy the panel for the interior to operate it? Or were you able to use the controls on the windshield wiper stick if you had them?

Just about every electronic and vacuum for that matter too, aftermarket cruise control can use a GM Multifunction switch found on 84 and up Squares. So long as it has the On/Off/Resume switch rather than just the button in the end of the turn signal, it should work fine.

Interesting. my truck still has the box under the dash that the switch wiring goes to, would I just unhook from that box, and then wire direct to the Rostra box? If so any idea how the wiring would go?
