I see that some have replaced the clock in their square bodies with a small aftermarket tachometer. I would like to do this in my 83 but don't know how the aftermarket tachometers would attach to the instrument backing plate. Does anyone know how this would be done? The clock is attached to a face with two offset mounting holes which attach to the cluster backing plate. How would the small tachometer attach to the backing plate? All of the aftermarket tachometers I see fit into their own housings. Thanks.

I installed a mechanical temp gauge through the bezel and cut out the cluster housing as needed for clearance. Hole in bezel was made tight so gauge couldn't move or fall out. Might be a little crude for you but looked fine once it was all assembled. Only problem was dealing with the gauge any time the bezel had to come off.

So, a close "force fit" to hold it against the black bezel cover? I can see how that would work but I think the aftermarket tach is somewhat heavy, so maybe the black bezel cover plate might bend too much?

I was wondering if I could somehow pry off the mounting plate for the clock and attach it to a small aftermarket tach?
