I haven't been around here that long, and just got in on the tail end before the asterisks got installed... I'm used to forums that you have to mind your language and pussyfoot around anything that could even remotely be considered political or offensive to that one percent. Gotta say... this place is pretty damn civilized. I mean, yeah, my Mormon ex woulda laid an egg if she saw one slightly bad word, but she woulda never been here in the first place. Bummer they had to change up something that really didn't need changing.

I'm not defending nor agreeing with word censoring 100% I'm just making a statement that could be. Most of the forums will come up in a simple google search, without need to log into the site, so there maybe the thought there that we might offend someone, even a 7 year old or an adult. I don't know I'm just saying that the forum is viewable by many more than just the members.

I do agree that it is going to far.

What about in PM, are words censored there too. To me what you do in private (PM) should be whatever you want. What you do in members only section another and then on the publicly viewable forum yet another, but that's just my opinion.

Well tell your 7 year old not to google stuff that might bring up dirty words. Lol it's the internet FFS. If your kid was looking for a pair of baseball cleats and searched the word "dicks" looking for "Dick's Sporting Goods", are you gonna blame the internet for how dare you have dirty content? The internet is a ****** up place, if you're worried about them finding bad words maybe don't turn them loose on the internet with an ipad because there are FAR worse things they could stumble across than a GM truck forum with a bunch of old dudes cussing about electrical problems and the weather and stuff...

I agree with your thoughts on the internet, and for the record I do not have children. I was just stating that for some people, right or wrong, like it or not, and for whatever reason they stumble on to a thread with a good bit of cussing going on, and then decide not to patronize the preferred vendors. Then the vendor pulls off the forum..... Look I'm talking out my ass I have no idea really it's just the logical thought in my head and I was trying to share that.

But what about in PM, no one knows if the censoring extends to PM messages????

This is an excerpt (a quick word list test) from my PM with @Ellie Niner I ran down a bit of a list of just what I could think off of the top of my head, since some of you were asking for a list, this is what I've come up with so far. Obviously it is not all inclusive by any means but does give some idea of the words it does or doesn't censor.

Troy, you can say fuckers plural but not the singular version without the "s" at the end which is why you could say it in PM but not here... I think.

Another oddity is that it seems to sensor "bʊng", but not "bunghole". Makes no sense.

Mebbe we should come up with a list of alternative alphabet characters to circumvent the evil machine? I don't really need to cuss, but sometimes it's just more useful to say "sh¡t the bed" that "went doodoo in the futon" or some such.

Wouldn't be surprised if the censors are service providers of the site (as in, any site). Its typical that $$$ is what buys it all up so they can dictate THEIR rules. Just like those in (s)elected office.

At least we can still say that one needs to retard their timing. They haven't censored everything. But apparently somehow the word b.u.n.g is bad? I literally do not even know of a way that word could be considered offensive or bad... Sure bunghole is a slang term for butthole, but that is about as offensive as saying dang instead of damn. And we're even allowed to say that. But we can't tell someone they need to make sure to buy exhaust parts with an o2 b.u.n.g already welded in? Like seriously wtf is going on here here, what is the actual problem?

At least we can still say Hooker. Not any other form of working girl, but hooker is just fine. I'll be lot lizard will come though just fine. And that's generally the lowest form. But try to call them by their proper name and look what happens. **********.

Just an observation on my part but as I mentioned earlier in this thread think "Incrementalism" Seems now the main focus is how to adapt to the new censorship, once that has been accomplished and everyone is happy again a new type or form of censorship will move in and then folks will occupy themselves adapting to that. And so on and so on, just like how this country has wound up where it's at right now. So yeah, go on and figure out how to get around it for now but the next changes are already being developed!! Just the thoughts of a foolish old man.
