R4 to Sanden whith stock ac lines(for serpantine)

I'm using a Sanden also but was more worried about any stress on the aluminum bracket (weight/vibration) from the compressor. Using the R4 bracket - was wondering if I needed to use the original exhaust stud to compressor brace with the Sanden.

The sanden runs so much smoother, i don't think you'll need it.

Sanden does not need it. It sits lower and has less side rotational forces pulling on the top(do not have a good way to describe but r4 can potentially have more loading because of dimension and mounting)

Thanks for the write up. I followed this for my truck last and getting ready to do the
same to my suburban.

So I'm doing my mock-up and this just doesn't look right. Unlike anyone else, I have to use these TA brackets so maybe thats whats so different and its ok? This is the only way I could get the brackets to line up and clear everything - looks like I'll need alot of spacers, which I dont care - just as long as how its mounted will work. Just doesn't look right to me. Dunno.

Its a 508 Sanden with the ports straight out in the back (since I knew it was going to sit high anyways - didn't want the rabbit ears) and the firewall ports are straight back about 2 ft.
Any help or input here is beer worthy. :happy160:

It should drop down lower and almost square

Not much lower, but mostly square as in the picture.

Ah - ok. Needs clocked a bit. Might be slight interference with the rear ports and the valve cover but will square it as much as possible.

I think I can make it work but the "kit" with the brackets I dont think will work. More customizing I suppose. :(

Sorry to keep harping on this - just trying to get the accessories mounted and out of the way.

This is the only 2 ways this will work on this mount/bracket. I did see a pic of someone who did their 89 Camaro and it sat (too) high like my previous post.

The top is using the holes on the brackets. The bottom pic is in a position (held there with a socket wrapped with black tape so I can get to the bolt) and will require modding the kit's bracket or making a whole new one. It -might- sit farther down but will require a whole new bracket setup - dunno. Looks better than it did, but still.

Either of these look correct? Thanks again.

I have a Vintage Air mount for a V-belt Sanden on the driver side which replaced the factory mount. I had issues getting thing to mount up too. It turned out that the bracket that physically mounts to the Sanden was clocked wrong. Once I got that fixed it went in perfectly.
I added a couole yellow outlines to your pic and attached it here. I think those outlined brackets need to be clocked differently on the Sanden and then it'll fit on the bracket like it should.
I could certainly be wrong though. Those VA brackets are really well built but have no install instructions at all.

"No instructions"...... yep. I went online and found 2 exploded views - neither showed spacer positions and both were for the driver's side. There's a YT vid also but the guy's hands are in the way and you still cant see anything.

I have those brackets in there actually just for spacers - they seem to be in the way (that 3rd hole height) every place else. I actually blacked them out from the front view because it was confusing to look at having that 3rd hole sticking out. If I wind up doing it like my last pic - which, barring a whole new compressor - I cant see to get it any better and still have clearance at the valve cover - I'll just use some ground 1/4" bar stock and make some 2" long adapter / spacer plates.

Made a couple of small brackets and as far as I can tell, this is as good as it gets. Without grinding out part of the aluminum bracket, no idea how it could fit any other way. I have found 2 write ups of guys doing this swap on their Gen 3 Camaros - both show the compressor mounted from the top and on the passenger side - none from the front - but they look like they sit about like mine. Also looks like they made their own brackets. Plus I have clearance for the ports and valve cover.
