Most '74 models from MN were rusted out by the mid '80's due to all the road salt they use there.
^ Yup. It's certainly worth crawling under it before handing over cash.

3,000 is the price, I'd like to offer 2,000. is this reasonable?
$2000 is reasonable if runs and drives as good as claimed, even if there is some underbody rust. If it can make a 560 mile drive under it's own power, its certainly worth $3000.

Probably worth having some detailed underbody pictures sent before lining up delivery from that far away.

I think the worst the guy can say to an offer of 2K is no. However, when you figure an 1100 mile round trip; the fuel costs, food and possibly a hotel while delivering the vehicle to you, it sort of whittles down the guy's take, so to speak.

I had a 77K10 in 1987 with a short bed rusted thru a good 5" above the non existent rear wheel openings.
It looked no different than a lot of the squarebody rust buckets today, and I'm from the South.
Road salt is a body killer, and a poor draining design just made it even worse.

More very good info, I'll be digging into this.

@mcarlo86, I also mentioned it was PARKED for a pretty good stretch of its life. I believe all of the 80s? and some 90s? and was only recently bought and sent to Nebraska, where it is now. So I don't have the luxury of actually looking at it. What I'll do is spend a solid half hour on the phone running though stuff with him, and request as many pictures of problem areas as well as video. What else could I do?

@GTX63 I have a wild card, he's offered to actually deliver it. So, even if I do 2K, I'd probably end up paying 3K total to cover him bringing it...

Expect 10 MPG while driving the wheels off of it. Your $3,000 will turn into $6,000 in an instant. Just so you know what to expect when investing in a vehicle like this.

"This squeak"?

I dont think any of us have heard your specific squeak, but U-joints in the front axles can cause a squeak in 4wd.
