Question, are all full size square body Blazers referred to as K5 ?

A friend just picked one up that has no front suspension and he asked me, never owned a Blazer so I don’t really know. Would they be 2 or 4 wheel drive?
Thanks !

Yes, full size can be called a K5. There was also the small version, the S-10. Then there is a GMT400 full size Blazer that I think was discontinued in 1994. Then of course there is the all brand new abomination to the Blazer name... :(

There was also the GMC Jimmy which could be a full size "Blazer" or also the S-10 version.

So much for an easy answer huh?

The full size Blazers could be both 2wd or 4wd.

Thanks, would the 2 wheel drive still have the K5 emblem on the fender?

Huh. Good question. I think they still have the K5 emblem on them. Don't think they followed the truck "rules".

Never heard of a C5 Blazer...

Then again never had a reason to buy or really follow 2wd stuff because of where I live.

If the front end has been completely stripped of suspension you could look inside and see if there is a hole in the transmission tunnel for where a transfer case lever used to be.

Is that trailering special emblem on a Blazer? Ive only seen the 10,000 lbs weight rating on the emblem for a 1 ton truck. Even my K25 with The camper special package is only rated at 8,400 lbs.

The "K5" label was dropped in the late 80's and GM started generically using "Blazer".

I agree that "Trailer Special" badge looks very unusual, I'd be curious to know if there's a supporting RPO code for that Blazer.

Yes, 2wd K5's actually had "K5" badges on the fenders and yes, there was a trailering special option for them that got you an emblem on the tailgate, like a Suburban. At some point in the early 80's, there was still a trailering special option available, but it no longer included the badge on the tailgate.

The Tailering Special emblem is a little miss leading. It lists "10,000 G.C.W." Which stands for; 10,000 lbs. Gross Combined Weight. Weight of the truck and trailer together.

That wouldn’t be misleading if the trailer you pull makes it 10k lol

Now i realize the difference on the Camper Special emblem is that it lists 8,400 or 10,000 Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) , while the trailering special lists GCW.

On the VIN tag my Camper Special also lists the weight rating for each axle, and the max camper weight.

The small GMC Jimmy was an s-15 . Just to confuse things more.

And to answer the OP question all Chevy blazers were K5s weather 2 or 4wd. GMC Jimmys I am not sure if they used k5 or k15
