Question about dash speaker hookup

PO had wires like this to the dash speakers (I only have one on each end of the dash no middle ones), what is the black cylinder thing and is that positive or negative. Should I leave it or use the two original wires, I haven’t put in a radio yet but have an old one on the way

It's a capacitor and I have no idea why someone would use that.

****-can the capacitor, use the stock wires and make a pair of jumpers/adapter wires that'll plug onto your new speakers and into the factory plug if they are different. Check the ohm rating of the speakers if you can, that may be why the PO put in the capacitor. The speaker should say what the ohms are on the back. The trucks with "stereo" speakers(2 dash, 2 behind the seat) do not come with a center speaker from the factory.

That's a capacitor that is used to filter out the low 'bass' signal. PO probably had a 2-way setup at one time.
I'd go with @mtbadbob and use a connector "spade type' for the original connectors and dump the rest.

Which color of wires go to positive and negative since they’re not typical black or red

Right front, dark green+, light green-
Left front, gray+ tan-
Right rear, dark blue+, light blue-

That’s the same on mine, thanks again! Im waiting on an old radio but not sure about the wires , they look to be label on the radio but some colors don’t match for my wires and guessing to the right of my bundle is the antenna plug. Are you (or anyone else) familiar with what is for what?

You need to see if your stereo is 4ohm,8ohm,or 10ohm that way you know what speakers to run or how to cheat to run the wrong impedance speakers.

And yet the person twisty wired cheap azz new speaker wire to old crusty speaker wire….lol

OP, not sure the actual question. Either patch up the old speaker wires and use them with the new system or run new speaker wire.

I got rid of their wires and cut off the original ends and put on new spade connectors like previous reply said

For sure the way to go. I just redid my stereo and replaced all the speaker cables. That old wire is tiny and you never know how corroded it is deep down in the sheathing.
