So not realy worried about cost unless its rly stupid but try and stay withing what can be bolted can have very little modding (ex. no rockwells). But what would be your ideal set up for a square and why? have your cake and eat it too. Can be parts from other years but like i said little modding.

1)engine (350,383,400,454,carb,tbi,efi......)
2)tranny
3)transfercase
4)axles-diffs-hubs (gear ratio)
5)wheels&tires (size)

round headlight squarebody for sure
572 big block, or bigger, blower on top, all chromed out.
4 speed or other manual trans.
4.11 posi rear, or close to 4.11/4.10 maybe 3.73 or something, maybe taller.
short bed 2wd of course,
15x? cragar ss's on the front
15x10 or wider cragars out back, tubbed, and 15 inch or so wide tires out back.

for a 4x4,
round headlight again, but would settle for 81-87 style.
44's or bigger on tires, same engine setup as before, big block with blower.
manual trans 4,5, or 6 speed?
t-case I'd case a 205 or something maybe a double setup.
5.13's or taller for sure, mostly a mall crawler.
Least amount of lift to clear 44's or bigger WITHOUT trimming.
then I'd love a custom 5 lug setup to run 12 or 10 inch wide cragar ss wheels all around, or even 6 lug as long as they were 5 spoke. then I'd have to have a visor and roll bar as well as a push bar or something up front.

Bolt on would be a 73-74 with the new Corvette ZR1 638 HP engine, six speed manual transmission, Brembo brakes and a ford 9 inch rear end. A nice lowered stance. Other than that it would look stock with the exception of tucking enough tire underneath it to put the power to the pavement.

Now if I won the lottery!
Custom chassis to hold all of the suspension and drivetrain of the ZR1 including the electronic traction and suspension control. Body would still look stock except for a lower stance. I would send it to Barry White and carry a suitcase full of 100 dollar bills and tell him the above and the rest would be up to him.

Please ignore the spelling and grammar errors it’s hard to type with one hand on the keyboard and the other on *** stop that momma said that would make me go blind if I keep******* OHH CHEVY ZR1! :insane:

LOL, ok a bit more expensive and ambitious routs than i was thinking but sure. I had in my mind stuff that could be picked up and pulled off other stuff/junkyard/parts trucks and if years and body style plays a roll tell why.

In that case it would be an 5.3 engine/ auto trans swap which I am going to do when the right combo comes along. Ford 9 inch rear end. Maybe a nice set of electric bucket seats out of something else. I like the body style so about the only thing I want to change on my 74 is finding a right side round fuel door that I can graft on to my bed to replace the external fuel filler cap but that is not a bolt-on deal. Once that is done then I may put on of those nice billet fuel doors on it.

73-79 4x4 crew.
mild built crate 454 carb
dana 60 front 14bff rear 4.10's
tranny.....Auto something with OD but hella strong (partly why i started this thread)
NP205
4" suspension lift with 35's
Bucket seats (don't know out of wat, but we had a 94 chevy 3/4ton x-cab that had aftermarket seats that were hands down the best i have ever sat in but have no idea how to find them again.)

dana 60/14bolt rear disc brakes arb lockers front and rear

I'ed like to get the single serpentine belt system out of a 92 Suburban to replace the four belt system I have now. And I'ed grab a 140 amp alternator out of a mid 90's Caprice and do that conversion so that I can keep both my batteries charged when they are under heavy load. I've been wanting to do this to the ol" 87 for quite sometime now.

Allison auto or 6-speed from newer GM trucks
D60 front axle
4.56's front and rear with LSD/lockers
255/85/16 BFG KM2's

This is actually the set-up I would like to be running someday. Not sure if everything will work together or not, like the top end package. I will cross that bridge if I ever get there!

Make mine a late 70's 4x4 Burb or K5, top of the line with all the trim and options. RamJet 502, 4l80e, np205, D60 and 14FF, locked front and rear, 4.88 gears, 6 inches of lift, TSL's on front and wide Boggers in the rear. And of course, NO RUST!

Hmm...

1978 LWB with an AFR headed 454 LSx block, TKO600 5 speed manual trans, 3.90s in a Ford 9 inch, Scott's Hotrods bolt-in IFS with rack and pinion steering, shaved cab seam, one piece door glass, running some nice alloy 15" rims with fat tires, painted metallic denim blue with a 2" cowl hood and a black stripe down the cowl.

1) 81-87 3/4 or 1 ton single cab 2WD

2) 4.3 v-6 or 350 or 6.2 diesel

3) Th-350C or Th-400 trans

4) Gear vendors overdrive unit (bolts to back of trans) (ok, not 100% bolt in because you need a custom driveshaft, but it's not that hard)

5) At least 4.10 rear gear. 4.56 is ok because of the overdrive unit.

a) If 1 ton rear then dual wheels is nice. If 3/4 rear maybe switch to Full floater unit or leave as is with single wheels.

6) LED headlights

7) At least tach, temp gauge, oil pressure gauge, voltmeter for gauges

i'm not hard to please.

I'm already collected most of the parts I'll change on my 4x4, so the next truck would be a round eye square, 2wd, short box step side. I've already got a carbed 4.3 with about 20k on the clock hanging on a engine stand. Back the engine with a nv3550 5 speed manual trans with a 2.73 or 3.08 geared rear end, That'll be my summer time driver.

383 torquer crate engine ( if they're built any more), built 700r4, Dana 60 front axle, corporate 14 bolt ff rear, 4:10 gears, 33s, cowl hood, and a nice black paint job. Nothing crazy but it would make me very happy!!
