I think this is the same family, I had never found one that was fully functional until today. It is a 1982 with a repair tag from 1987. I can cut the long, plastic mounting ears to use in my truck (AFAIK, if I decide the swap out the newer analog Delco). I should have taken a picture of it in operation. No tape.

Is anybody actually good at fixing these things and maybe adding some updates? Even an Aux connector would be good enough to add some capability.

I still have the one from my Suburban, and it was working fine except the screen was a little flakey. If you pushed on it, it would display properly. Other times it is was hieroglyphics.

Could those wires be for a power antenna?

by that time all squares had antennas built into the windshield. It's already been said a few times, but that wire is a constant hot for memory.

I can do this stuff, but seem to lack the motivation to get it set up on the bench (lacking space, coffee table and dining table set ups). If I use the 'new' one, I may have to add the aux input. I've added them to all our cars
