Gauge is messed up. Sometimes works sometimes doesn’t. Checked with multimeter and it’s got 14.3 volts. Gas gauge reads backwards and bounces also because it is the wrong ohm rating. I might as well replace all those gauges with the same type as the new oil pressure gaugeWhat's the deal with that voltage gauge? It should be around 14 when running.
Yeah they don't need a lot Old chevy sixs just had dippers on the rodsI drove a 283 sbc for two years with 12-14 psi oil pressure. Never seemed to hurt it. But it did get 40 miles to a quart of oil.
My 283 had rings seized on two pistons and bad valve seals. I had dual exhaust and on the bank that the rings were bad had hardly any exhaust, compared to the other bank. That engine was swapped from a 64 Impala with a little less than 100k on it. Was just worn out.Car looked nice. I put it in a 67 c10 for 2 years. Check the gas ... fill it up with oil!Yeah they don't need a lot Old chevy sixs just had dippers on the rods
If anyone has part numbers for the proper temp sending units for the different years, that could be helpful. I picked up one for mine but definitely reads hotter than it’s running. How do you know the specific temp readings on the highway, since the stock gauge in a ‘73 did not have any numbers on it? Is this the original gauge cluster, and/or have you added something aftermarket?
It’s also very common to have the wrong temperature sending unit (GM changed them several times over the years) in an older engine, and that would screw up rhe temp reading.
The original oil pressure gauge in the cluster should also be mechanical. Is that what you are using?
