Oil in the “heat passages” on BBC 360 heads

I was surprised to find lots of oil in the passages between the #4 and #5 exhaust over to the intake manifold on both 360 heads. Should I be? Cracked heads? Blowing in from the exhaust stroke? Thanks.

@AKguy was it liquid oil or carbon build up? That's an exhaust crossover for the choke or EGR, etc., I've seen carbon build up in there. Performance intake gaskets have a block off plate to help the intake stay cooler.

Like Rick said, an added is benefit is slightly more HP, for free. David Vizard did some interesting studies on that, plus helps with oil leaks.
