OEM Starter options?

I just bought the mini starter from Roc Auto and it only took a few days to get here.
Same part number for small and big block.
It will get put in this weekend.

We have pulled several of them from the junkyard and they have all worked pretty well for a while.
Good option to get you by for cheaps at $27 plus core charge.
You can test them in the yard with a drill battery to make sure the function is good.
Just need some way to connect the two parts which is easy to McGuyver in the yard...

They fit like champs with headers on our 1979 big block truck.
Stock for our 1995 Suburban.
Easy to install on a 1976 straight six in a Nova.
Max even has one on his hybrid 1949 S10/3100 truck.

Last AC Delco starter I bought from Rockauto, my starter just needed a solenoid no one stocks solenoids anymore. I went rockauto, a AC Delco from Rock was about the same price as a solenoid. That starter failed almost immediately,may have been DOA,don't remember for sure. Anyways years later I'm still rolling with my old starter with the cannibalize solenoid from the rockauto starter.

Went to O'Reilly today. A new Permanent Magnet Gear Reduction starter for a 95 burb is $197.00. ouch! Rock Auto is half the price.

I have a big block, starter from the 350 it replaced, 168 tooth, big ol' heavy starter. It works, most of the time. When it is hot and I park it just for a few minutes of shut off, when I try to start it it acts like the battery is drained, (NAPA Legend AGM 900 cc) open the hood, let things cool, and starts right up. I have wrapped starter with quality thermo barrier wrap. Really the only annoying thing about this BBC. Did the starter above crank over the BB when it was hot?

Yes.
It cranks right over, no problem.
The starter is not wrapped or anything either.
But it is so much smaller so the headers give it plenty of space to stay cooler.

And these have all been junkyard starters.
I have had to change them out just because they are tired and just quit working.
But the new one should be most excellent.

Well I ordered a AC Delco pmgr starter for a 98 5.7 from Rock Auto. Should be here Saturday. Hopefully it fits. I did notice in the specs it was half the weight (8lbs) of my current direct drive starter.

You will be amazed that this little starter works so well.
I remember picking my first one up, so light and compact.

Well, RockAuto delivered today. Amazed how light this is! I was like, there's no way there's a starter in that box. Wrong. Lol
