A family member wants help doing a tie rod and provided a part. the part is a oreillies parts house brand outer tie rod without a cotter pin or a castle nut. its just a torque prevailing nut, but of nylon design. Im not saying they dont work but im worried about harsh road spray eroding that nylon in addition to the wear and tear on steering system. Im wondering maybe drill a holl once the nut is torqued and install a cotter pin as secondary backup?

Thoughts?

Gut reaction, I wouldnt put it on my car. I use brass cotter pins and currently detroit axle one side, AC Delco the other.

Car is a 2004 maxima if that mattered

yep
