Nv3500 into an 86 k10, but not a normal swap.

Okay i have kind of an odd situation. Looking to swap a NV3500 into my 86. Found alot of threads here, but no one has my exact situation.
I have an 86 GMC K1500 shortbed.
350, SM465, and NP208.
I have 4:10 gears, so it screams going anywhere, eats alot of fuel. Was looking for a trans with OD. Bought an NV3500 out of a 98 k1500. Seems like its a good swap, but i do have a few questions.
I took measurements and the lengths look perfect. Case length is the same, mount location is the same, bellhousing is the same, round bolt T-case pattern is the same. From my research, the output shaft spine count is the same. Shouldn't need to change drivehafts.
I have a hydrualic clutch already, and according to some YouTube videos ive watched it says i can use my 80s cutch master cyl, with that internal style 98 slave cyl/release bearing if i run an adapter fitting.

Now my biggest issue i have is i believe, i will need a differnt flywheel and clutch set.
Now id just buy a set for a 98 and call it done, except my 350 in my truck is out of a 86 corvette, and the flywheel bolt pattern is the larger internally balanced SBC and BBC type.
Cant find any info on what type of flywheel i would need to buy. Kinda lost there.
Also not 100% sure if the YouTube info i got on using a stock master cyl will work. If not, what would i need? Would a 90s model master cyl bolt up? Or what adapter fitting do i buy.

Anyone here have any answers or been threw the same thing, i would greatly appreciate help. Thanks.

I don't have any answers but I am really happy to see you posting here again!

I had that transmission in a '95 GMC and I loved it. It would certainly be a more useful and modern transmission in your '86.

Sorry I am no help with your problems.

Glad to hear from you again!

Are you sure you're engine is an '86? '86 was the first year for a 1-piece rear main seal with the smaller crank flange.

Also, it's my understanding that the 3500 uses the typical type Chevy clutch and flywheel setup. So it's just a matter of getting a clutch disc to match the trans, 10 or 26 spline.

I believe it's @bluex here that has swapped the 3500 into a truck with an older 350.

^^^^ use the pressure plate that matches your engine and a clutch disc that matches your transmission, may have to look at a few to pic one that has the same O.D. as the Corvette, but even if it's a little small it will still work. Leave the flywheel alone..

Thanks. Same to you.

Well i never had any paperwork on the vette bought for the engine, i was told 86.
I only know it was a TPI L98, and it had the big pattern.
When i put the engine in, i found a flywheel that was identical is size and style to the original one off the 305, except big bolt pattern.
Trans is 10 spline like the sm465.
So i can use the flywheel, clutch and pressure plate thats already in there? That'd be awesome if thats the case

I belive the 2 transmissions are the same. I have a 12inch clutch in the truck right now.
Thatd be great if i can use everything that i have.

I'm not sure about the diameter. A 12" might not fit? 11" is more common I believe.

Within the bellhousing of the 3500. The pressure plate could possibly interfere. I don't know that for sure, I'm just supposin'.
I gotcha..

I have the orginal 11inch clutch and pressure plate off my 305. I should bolt them up to a flywheel and put them in the trans, see if they fit well..

So I was just looking through Bluex's build thread and he mentions the need for "the correct pressure plate to work with the internal slave cylinder". Unfortunately, the link to his trans swap thread seems to be dead. Hopefully he will be able to let us know at some point.

Ah interesting.
I was wondering.

I just recently replaced the NV4500 in my 98 with one from a 95. I figured one for one swap, be easy. Nope.
95 is an external slave, 98 is an internal slave cylinder. Required me to get a new flywheel, clutch, and pressure plate.
Bellhousings don't swap either, different bolt pattern and center bore. What a pain.
Im gun shy now, lol

Nnnooooo

The pressure plate has to match the throwout bearing style. An 86 plate would be clutch fork style an it won't work with an internal slave. He needs to use a 96+ clutch kit and a flywheel that matches his engine. I'll have to look again but i believe a 98 350 had a 12" clutch option.

I can't help on the master question, I think it would work but just something you'd have to try an see. I used a wilwood master mounted more traditionally on the firewall

You can use the clutch disc as they are both 10 spline but you'll need a 96 an up pressure plate.
