Hey guys it’s my first time posting , I’m looking for some advice. I just bought this truck, 79 k1500, and I’m going through the process of getting this beauty road worthy. Among the 2-page safety inspection list was the broken transfer case mount. The blue tag on it says it’s an NP205 and I have never worked with one before. I think it’s cast iron so I don’t think welding it is really an option. So my question is this, is this fixable/repairable, or should I look for another transfer case? Any input would be appreciated, thanks.

Looks like sonsome has already tried to booger weld that.

You don't need a new t-case, you just need to replace the trans/t-case adapter. You can find a good used one or get a new aftermarket adapter.

If you run into problems locally reach out to Texas Square Bodies on Facebook (in Wills Point, TX). He has a large parts yard. Let him know what you are looking for and his prices are usually good for oem used parts. https://www.facebook.com/TexasSquareBodies/

Might take a while to get it to you and have to go through a network of friends but I bet he can help you.

Off-road design offers some replacments. A little spendy but they have good quality stuff

seen a lot of them that are cracked. they just bolt in between the 205 and the transmition. i have 2, both have been welded before, it can be done if you know a good welder.

I think it may also depend on where and how it is cracked and the ability of the person who is doing the repair to prep and heat the original piece.. That looks like if you were to drill it and use some set pins, then do some bevel grinding and clean out the fracture, then you have to heat up both the pieces and get them to welding temp. It's not just as easy as throwing a good mig bead on it. It's really a lot of work overall and any welder who can do it successfully will charge you more than it is worth to replace it to be honest....

It is worth asking, but what transmission do you have on there? Is it the 4 speed?

Thank you all for the replies. I went around today, called and checked all the scrap yards in my area and nobody has an adapter that’ll work for my setup

It’s the th350.

I know a couple of welders who could maybe help me out... just trying to figure out what would be the most cost effective

it's also commonly referred to as the Figure 8 Transfer case adapter. I think it might have also been commonly used with the 4 speeds.

The 4 speeds used a different adapter. The 350/205 adaper is a specific part.

I tend to agree that I'd try it once with a good welder and see what you end up with. Worse comes to worse it works for now and cracks a little later down the road. Gives you time to source a new one. With a little weekend work and some heavy lifting it's not too terribly hard to swap in a driveway. Heck I did my first one in a gravel driveway and that was a swearfest but not too terrible. Once you get it back in I'd just check it closely maybe every time you fill up a tank of fuel, then later if no problems then maybe every time you change the oil.

I would just not drive it any further if it breaks again. I found out the hard way that only having one out of the two mounts will add a lot of flex to the drivetrain and break stuff. Was an expensive lesson.
