NP 205 rear output change from 1310 to 1350

My ‘73 K10 NP 205 has a 1310 yoke on the output and I want to change it to a 1350 yoke for a new driveshaft. Can I change the output yoke buy just removing the nut from the output shaft and swap the yokes then replace the nut and torque to 150 ft lbs? Or do I need to remove the tail housing to remove the yoke?

Just the exterior nut. Sometimes you'll need a jaw puller to get it out

Do you have the yoke already? If it's the earlier type with u-bolts instead of straps, be forewarned that they can be hard to track down these days. Last week, I had to go to 4 different parts stores before I found the correct u-bolts. And they were listed as only fitting Fords.

If your getting a new shaft built, you also have the option of using a flange yoke. I really like mine and it eliminates the U bolts altogether.

I have a new shaft coming. The shop is including the yokes at each end as well as all hardware. Thanks for the heads up.

Great idea, I did not think about it and the shop didn’t mention it.
