It's very common for these cars to have the exact problem described, it's VERY often a dirty TB and/or MAF sensor. A fuel pump can sometimes cause an acceleration issue, but more often they just quit pumping altogether.
Oh yeah, as for the hard start issue. If you give it just a bit of throttle, it may start every time.

Haha maybe your string. I was reading a book on C++ a while ago trying to learn how to program.
It's very similar to tracing down car issues sometimes when it comes to the smallest things can make it run like crap but once you find the issue and fix it runs like a dream again (at least ideally )
