I think it was 89S' repository that mentions that only up to 78's are direct replacement for my truck?

If you can, try to get a 77 or 78 column. Then you can take advantage of the Jeep XJ Steering shaft too.

Are the xj shafts long enough to help accommodate the body lift?

I'd say for at least 1 inch for sure, and most likely for 2 inches and still be safe.

That looks like an early model with the splines on the end. You can't use a Jeep shaft with it but you may have to change your steering box too to use one anyway. I ran in to that problem on Abby's 73.

Remember these guys? I've hit up one of them to see if they have an Auto Column. They're in the Elmonte and Azusa area. They have lots of parts between all of them.

I'd personally go hit up an LKQ or Pull-A-Part.

There is **** tons of Ecology centers in So Cali. I think Ecology is now LKQ centers. Bad part is, the odds of finding a complete unmolested column is slim. Most have been taken apart or at least parts taken from them. Worth a try though. I'd sure do that before I sepnd $175 + shipping for that piece he had shown on Ebay. That one looked rough IMO.

Not sure where in So Cal @theblindchicken is located but I see plenty of 1970s-early 80s squares in the yards when I look through the inventories.

I don't know either, but I know in the LA Burbs, Long Beach/Wilmingotn, Santa Fe Springs, El Monte and a couple others there is Ecology Center and I'm really thinking LKQ took over the Ecology Centers. Lots of parts but also lots of people. Here, I rarely see a complete steering column. Most have been raped and molested. People will cut and destroy harnesses just to get a switch. Makes me sick.
