Hello
I actually have one of these transmissions. Still in the truck that I ordered back in 1986. A 305 with a 4 speed with overdrive. I was interested in saving gas which I forget how much a gallon it was then, but beyond anyone's imagination now.
I am in the process of restoring the truck and want to replace the powerplant with a 350 and a 700r4. I could use some guidance on matching up this drive train with the truck from the standpoint of the cross member and front and rear drive shafts. I am trying to do minimal modifications to both and would like to just bolt everything in.
Anyone out there have any advice

Thanks

So you have a 4x4 with an NP208, correct? If so, you can get a 4x4 version of the 700r4 with the '85-up t-case adapter (the "short foot" design) and a 208 with the 27 spline input (or swap the 27 spline input into your existing 208) and bolt it all in, using your stock shafts and crossmember.

Yep, it all should bolt right in. The lenght difference being made up in the Tcase adapter so the driveshaft lenghts will remain the same.

I've had a couple of those, one in a 4wd and the current one is a 2wd. Both were diesel half ton trucks. The plastic plugs in the outer holes were pulled from the bell housing and I put an SM465 directly in it. I wish that I still had the plastic cover for the 4wd and trans shifter as I've not seen another here in NC since that truck that came from Mass. I have the side cover off the 2wd version and use it as a teaching aid in my shop.

Hey thanks all. That's a relief to know it will all bolt in. I just want to make sure the cross member does not have to be changed ? Last I checked the a 833 was 27 1/2 inches and
the 208 was 19"

Yes I will be selling the A-833 if anyone is interested...the 305 also

I have 83 with this transmission. Have protecto plate with the transmission code
Nice, is yours a... well if it's a 4x4 K10 its the cast iron case unit. I think that's the only way the 4x4 unit came. 2x4 could be aluminum which is most common but some 2x4's were also cast.

Hello!
I've come across 3 A833 chevy 4x4 transmissions for sale. One has a Hurst shifter and the other two have the later factory shifter. Also for sale are 2 np208 transfer cases and 2 hydro bell housings. I'm curious what one of these transmissions is worth, let alone the whole lot?
He would like 500 a piece for the transmissions, but I find that a little steep. What's reasonable in today's market, and how many are actually out there?
With some input I'm tempted to buy them all...
Thanks guys!

I sold mine for a 4x4 with the Bell Housing, and Hurst Shifter with a gasket kit for $500 about 8 years or so ago.

If the transmissions are in good working order and have the shifters, linkages, and bellhousings, then I'd think $500/each is a good deal. They are hard to come by, and occasionally when I come across them on EBay, they want more than that. Make sure they are in good shape though...

Hello all
I now have the A833 transmission and associated parts out of the truck if anyone is
interested. I am trying to recall who had expressed interest a few months back. They
were from north Dakota I beleive. So if anyone needs one, no reasonable offer refused.

I bought one (A833), but I have to go get it.
I've been watching the old chevy training videos on y.t., they were pushing it in 84.
I've read elsewhere the 6.2 with the manual overdrive would get mileage up to 24 m.p.g. in a c10.

the Bell Housing,
I bought an '82 Scottsdale years back that had one of these OD 4 Speeds. The input shaft was broken so I pulled it and used and SM465 directly to the bell housing. I had to remove some plastic thread inserts that were in the unused holes as the OD was narrower than the big cast iron SM465. I have a 2wd version of the same trans from another diesel truck that I bought several years back. They are not easy to come by.
