Hello
Just thought I'd post a introduction thread so you guys would see what I'm working with.
I picked a a 78' K10 a few weeks ago on Craigslist for $800.
It runs pretty strong so far.
It came with a newer crate motor with an Edelbrock 1406 carb, Holly "street dominator" intake and headers. I put the new air cleaner on as the old one was thrashed.
The tranny (TH350) has an unknown shift kit that shifts pretty solid, no slipping or anything. I dropped the pan and changed the filter and it looked pretty clean.
It has the NP203 t-case with a part time conversion. I can't get it to shift into 4lo but I've read up about adjusting the shift linkage so I'm gonna try that and hope that and see what happens. I do plan on swapping in a 205 in the future when I come across one in the junkyard or Craigslist.
It has a Dana44 and 12 bolt with I believe 3.73 but not 100% (just did the counting the driveline test that was posted here).
It isn't too bad in the rust department. That cab corners and rockers are clean and the fenders have some light rust. The bed is pretty banged up and has some nice rust holes in it (I'm hoping to just replace the whole bed when I find a clean one).
The interior is pretty hammered as well. It will definitely need a donor seat and dash pad.
I also discovered a crack in the frame above the passenger shock mount that I posted about earlier today: http://www.gmsquarebody.com/forum/showthread.php?t=7555 so I'll have to get that repaired
This isn't my first square body though, I had a 79' K10 long bed, four speed back about
10 years ago but it was pretty rusted out and I hated that manual clutch. I sold it after a few years of abuse for what I paid for it. Never had any mechanical problems with it though.
I'm somewhat capable with a wrench but far from a pro and I am on a pretty tight budget so this will be a slow process. I intend on just using this as a mild trail rig, daily driver and just to have a pickup. Nothing crazy, just something to play around with in the hills. I don't plan on making it a show truck or haul/tow heavy loads or anything.
Anyway, sorry for the long post. Writing is not one of my strong points. I'll post some more pictures tomorrow. Thanks for looking. I hope to stick around and learn. This looks like an awesome forum so far.
