Two barrel carbs have large throttle bore and venturis to feed the engine throughout the rpm range, a four barrel has small primaries for cruise and secondaries for power, smaller the throttle bore and venturis the better the mileage that's why a four barrel is easier on gas, also why a Q-Jet with the tiny primaries gets better mileage than other carbs.
