So, since you're close to the border and its Canadian built, be sure to look at the speedo. It may be in KPH and not MPH. Other than that, if it's a keeper, then keep it.VIN on the K20 I'm looking at: 2GCGK24M7E1184544.
Thanks to a graphic on this forum:
2GC=Canada Chevrolet
G=8001-9000 Hyd Brakes

I'm sorry you you misspelled that...It's man-hoe....LOLMahalo!
4-10s with a 3 speed it's going to give you crappy gas mileage.Thank you for warm welcome thus far.
Some questions as I'm reading and researching: this rig I'm going to look at supposedly has a vortec out of a 99 truck. Which then I assume is an L31. He's also stated it has the TH350 and NP208, 4.10 gears. Does that make sense as a legitimate swap? I'm going to look at it here in about an hour.
What else would y'all recommend I look at?
Honestly it sounds like the guy tried doing a motor swap, it didn't turn out like he wanted, or there was more to doing the swap than he thought. Now he's just trying to pass it off to someone else and let them figure it out. If it was me...I'd offer him 3k, and list all the things you'll have to do to make it drivable for your son, or just keep looking...So, looked at it. Guy wants $5250.
It's been swapped for a L31, swapped to an edelbrock 4 barrel. TH350 and NP208.
The only gauge that worked was the speedo, and it was off by like 5 mph. 265s on it.
It hesitates on initial acceleration, but never died.
Tailgate handle/release was jacked up a bit. Hood closed and was relatively straight, but it was a bit of a bitch to get open. AC doesn't work, in fact neither did the heat. No radio or speakers. Dash was sun cracked fairly heavily.
It wasn't BAD, but it seemed like it wasn't worth $5250. I dunno.
A 99 5.7 Vortec would indeed be an L31. It is a roller cam, 4 bolt main, single piece rear main seal block. The Vortec refers to the cylinder heads, which are a high flow swirl port design. The TH350 and NP208 would have most likely been the stock trans and T-case for that truck. The hesitation from a start could be from poor carburetor adjustment or something else, but $5k is way too much money for a truck that is a dime a dozen here in the PNW. Maybe 2-3K.... maybeSo, looked at it. Guy wants $5250.

Now I WILL say it was very rust free. What rust there was was surface. So structurally it is a great stepping off point.A 99 5.7 Vortec would indeed be an L31. On this the current owner says he gets between 10-12, with like 265/70?-R17s on it. I'm thinking if we end up getting this one we'll eventually swap em out for 3.73s.4-10s with a 3 speed it's going to give you crappy gas mileage.
