lol working on the motor, well i got her all the way down to the block, going to take the block to work and do a little honing on it on monday. i think everything looks pretty good, as in crank, timing chain, timing gear. think im gonna price some new pistons. but for now im just glad its all apart so i can start getting ready to get it back together.

I must say, someone did a hell of a job maintaining that motor. Very clean inside. Look at those main bearings !!! I'd hone it, rering it, new bearings only cuz they are cheap and run with that short block just a like a new build. No ridge in the cylinders???

BTW, I hope to hell you marked those main caps. Cardinal sin if you didn't. I know you have them in order but, someone walks by accidently kicks them, or some kids picks one up, or the wife, daddy what's this do? Then you don't know which is which. Hopefully they are marked from the previous build..

DUDE !!! IF you are not 100% certain of which way they go, and which one in the EXACT SPOT it came from, you may as well throw the block away. Reason being, it would then require a line bore or you'll chew up the new bearings in a matter of a couple hundred miles of use if you have them wrong and didn't line bore the block. The cost of line bore now days, you just find a new core.

Well you live you learn, I just got home and checked then, and I guess the last guy marked them, they have two dots and three dots, so I know where they go, got lucky on that one for sure, and I had them in the right order. Like I said this is my first rebuild and im learning a lot, and y'all have been a real big help

BTW, you want the same rods on the same journals too, with the same caps. Also, lifters MUST GO ON THE SAME LOBE if not replaced. Pushrods don't matter much, but keep in mind, building a motor, you want to put it back EXACTLY like it came apart. Rods won't matter if you had them resized of the crank turned. But if you didn't, then you want them in the same spot since with use and wear, they are now married to that journal.

Depends on price and condition. If they are freshly redone and you can get them for say $300 or less, it's not a bad deal at all. Much higher than that and your are nearing Vortec money.

*If they are the early heads without accessory holes, don't even bother with them.
