Going to be doing cab corners, rockers and new doors in the truck I think maybe this summer, but I don’t know the paint code. I have reason to believe the truck was originally metallic blue, I cannot find a cowl tag, nor is there anything in the glovebox. It is a metallic green that I have thrown some clearcoat on to preserve, but I can’t find. Out what color I got. Any ideas?

Your best bet would be to take something into a paint shop and have them match it up. Not sure if you know this, but your bedsides (and likely the whole bed) are from an 80's truck as I can see the clear coat stone shields GM started doing in the 80's at the front of the wheel arch, and in one of your other threads of the cab corners there are the plastic plugs at the front of the bedsides facing the back of the cab.

When did they start stone shields? My 78 has stainless ones...

That concerns me if this was a ‘Frankenstein-truck’...

I was going to try to match the patina, or at least blend out into the front and rear fender/tailgate.

This truck will remain Patina’d no matter what I do, it has too much body damage and would cost a lot more than it’s worth to me. With that said, a green that’s “close enough” also works hahah.

Yeah, take a painted part to a paint store, such as the glove box or ashtray, assuming they're the same color as the outside.

I remember that type of rear bumper from back in the day. Most were 100% chrome, and when you were following a truck at night, you would be blinded by your own headlights!

There are several types of green. There is glenfield, spruce and several others. I know it's not 505 which is Chevy dark green, I ha e been looking at lots of love hose and just had mine painted that color.

I agree, 43 looks close. Here are the interior components.

So would you guys mind giving me a breakdown of what all is wrong with my “1979”? Body wise, was something changed?

here’s a better side pic. So you are thinking that it has the wrong bed?

What's the other side look like? I've only seen a close up of rusty bondo.

Looks like a '79 to me. My dad had a '79 suburban that was that color, or very close and I've always liked it.

Edit-looks like Dark Green to me, #46

Also... I am realizing that the tailgate emblems may be funky. Through google image searches, I don’t see any with the fender emblem on where the GMC emblem should be haha.

I hope I didn’t open a can of worms... I know the truck has been painted... maybe they added the rock chip guard with some undercoating and painted over it??? When parts get swapped, I get nervous... say a cab swap and so forth.

If you have a dual tank truck that bed could be original. The stone guards were probably added during the repaint.

It is dual tank and both are hooked up.

Also the gmc emblem should be on the left side of the tailgate band. The fender badge shouldn't be on the band.
