Someone brought it up in a reply that I was confused about -- is this truck full time 4x4? What's the point of the shift knob for 2x/4x, etc. if that's the case?

I brought that up. The shift still appears to be, and most 78's are FULL TIME 4wd. Meaning it is driven byt he front OR rear axle. The shift stick in that model cna be LOC'ed in 4 HI, then it's both axles at the same time. of 4 Low LOC.

The NP203 Transfer case works like a differential until you LOC it down.
