Need A Tach

Hey guys. Iv got a 6.2L powered R30 and I would really like to have a tach. Did they have factory tachs in a 6.2? If not, how would I go about an aftermarket one?

2+ ton up trucks with diesels could have a factory tach, I'm not sure how it is controlled though.

Ooo I REALLY like that cluster! If its got the same motor then it "should" work... in theory lol

I believe that the impulse for the tach on the 80's diesels was taken from the alternator. It's easy if you have the correct alternator.

hi,here is the post location ,I included both styles of alt either one ,should have the R terminal as for a tach wire.....guy..



in that case there is no hook up for a tach on your alternator ,in that case you may have to either get an alt with the tach post on it or if there is an alt starter rebuilder in your area have them install one on it ,which would be cheaper to do than buying one .or if a junk yard has one ...guy..

Most were Detroit Diesels, but in all honesty, I can't see it not working on a 6.2 with a little modding.

6.2, I`m not sure.
A lot of the diesels I worked on had a magnet attached to the flywheel, for the signal generator, sensor was screwed into the bell housing. The 8.3 liter Detroit diesels were all made that way.

The 6.2 is a Detroit diesel as well if I'm not mistaken. If that is the case, shouldn't be too hard to adapt something.
