Hi all, first post here. I've got a stock 78 c10 sitting on 31s, stock height. Was wondering what my options were for lowering given tire size, I only really take it around town, and am not looking to put it on the ground. Id be happy with just 2/4, not sure if that's possible though. Id just make drop shackles and get lowering spindles, thanks!

Welcome from a fellow Phoenician...post some pics. Off the top of my head...2 inch front drop is all I think you can accomplish with such a tall tire. Out back possibly 4 inches. It's hard to say for sure. All you can do is start with 2 inches and try it out for clearance.

Thank you for the feedback. Is there anything I could trim to make the tire clear better?

Couldn’t you just put “normal” sized tires on and then you could lower in the traditional manner with out needing to trim to fit an oversized tire. Just saying

I wish I could but I don't have the budget, making drop shackles and buying spindles are the most I can do

Well...until you can budget new tires, a 2 inch drop is the first step. I can't honestly say that I know what clearance issues you may have since most people don't have that profile of tire when considering a drop. Worst case scenario is your tires may scrub your front fenderwells at full compression, or when turning. The back isn't as much of an issue.

For different tires...you could always try craigslist. There is always someone with wheels/tires combos on there wanting to make a deal and the lug pattern isnt difficult to match. You may even be able to do a trade with cash...who knows.

I would just drive it and wait until I need tires(that comes too soon) and then deal with it.

i lowered the front of my 84 c-10 2 inches by cutting one round off the spring. i put front brackets and shackles on the rear and it dropped it 4 inches. this is with a 402 big block. front tires are 255/70-15 and are about 28 inches tall.
