Lower Radiator Hose

I decided to replace my radiator, and within the process figured it would be good to put in new upper and lower radiator hoses. Has anybody done this, and if so, did you have a hard time moving the lower radiator hose? Mine seems to be stuck, or maybe there is some sort of piece that holds it on. Any advice is appreciated.

Try twisting it with channel locks to free it up. You might even need to cut it.

Yes cut it with a razor blade and gently pry the hose off with a screwdriver

The new one can be a pain going on too. Put a little bit of liquid dish soap on it and it should go on fairly easily.

Ok, I’ll see if any of those techniques work. The only problem is being able to reach where the hose connects to the water pump.

Maybe I should have done that before putting the fan shroud back on...[emoji848]

I had more issues where the hose connects to the radiator as the tranny lines and coolant bottle are there.

Just gotta Fark with it - at some point you will have held your mouth just right and it will just go on, like magic.:cool:

It's a little easier to reach from the bottom. Pull the other end off the radiator first so it will be drained.

Yep, I did all that. Got under the truck, still no dice. I’ll see what I can make happen later today when I have some time.

Alright so I got it off last night. It took some cutting, but it eventually came off. I’m glad I’m replacing it because it was full of gunk. The spring broke when I took it out of the old hose.

Does anybody know why they have that in there? Is it just to keep its shape and so that the hose does not collapse? I might need to get a new one if it’s required.

That's correct, the spring helps the hose from collapsing. I've never ran a spring in any of the newer hoses and havent had any problems, not to say thats the correct way though.

Make sure you flush out the cooling system to get everything flowing clean and clear. I use a garden hose with enough pressure to get the water flowing. I flush the heater core seperately.
