That would not have been me. I consider Th200 as disposable as a Bic lighter. A short tail shaft Th350 bolt right in their place so I always converted them to Th350 and trashed many Th200 and Th200C. Now the 200-4R, I'd get all those I can now days and sit on them.

We don't have loonies here. OK maybe a few, but most aren't going coming to hurt you so I'd update my location to where I'm at when looking for parts especially. You can even be vague if you wish without naming a city. Like Central Texas, or Northern, IL etc. This way people have an idea where you're at.
Example being, if you're in the OKC area and want a BOP Th350 case, I think I still have one. It's gutted but you might have a Chevy Bell Th350 that you might want to build the Th350 parts and put them in the BOP bell housing case. If you're close and want it , you're welcome to it.

I don't believe that you have to cut the cross member, just move it. We used to do these transmission swaps back in the day. I think the frame may actually be drilled already as that body was fitted with multiple drive trains

the car never came with anything bigger than a th350, none the less i hate em.
I'd prefer the metric 200s over anything. Same for a 700r4.

it's a 1979 Pontiac LeMans btw... very scarce and wanting to keep it all original.

I thought the metric 200 shared mount locations with the TH350.

Imho, one reason a '79 LeMans is scarce these days is because the excessively light duty transmissions had a tendency to fail, causing their owners to junk the car.

Some cars will never be highly collectible no matter how rare or scarce they are. It really doesn't make sense to search out and install a factory oversight when you already have something better to use. Nobody is going to look under the car and nitpick about an upgraded transmission.

But you are seeing the theme here, aren't you?

Which is it? a Th350 or a Th400? Th350 should bolt right in and not require the crossmember to be moved. A Th400 would. 79 Lemans is nothing more than another G Body. G Bodies came with Th350's all day long too. Direct bolt in.

It was an X-body I thought. Some were trimmed real ugly and some were rather attractive. They get zero respect compared to the average G-body and the value reflects that. Really the only people that like them are the ones that realize they have good underpinnings and they are a good platform to build from.
