Just got all my bed off my 74 longbed and dismantled it inorder to refurb, repair and waxoyl it.Trucks been belltech lowered but im not happy regarding aesthetics of longbed,id like her to be more in proportion with cab and frontend.Seen lots of shortbed conversions but theyre too short for my needs and alot of time and work.Has anybody got any pics of longbed with approx a 10" chop inbetween wheelarch and rear light?Visualising it just aint the same as a pic.Doing this keeps my wheelbase, fuel tanks etc,etc the same.I did this on a 59 apache and everybody liked it so would like to know youre thoughts, any pics would be great as i cant find any.cheers Jon

I say keep it a longbed, the reason its 8ft is because most lumber/drywall/other things comes in 8ft sections which means that there is no overhang.

I've never heard of anyone just chopping 1 inches off of a bed unless it was a body swap and they wanted to match a different wheelbase.

It would be cool to see, but I'd never do it to my truck.

^x2, also that would be a lot of work just to do 10 inches. I prefer long beds over short beds any day so I'm biased.

Check squarebody syndicates website. They have a crewcab "megacab" that had 4-6" added to the cab and the bed was cut down to 7'. It all looks factory and proportional. I believe Kyle at Metalox did the sheetmetal work. Kyle/ Metalox does probably 2-3 long bed to shortbed conversions a month.

Haha, outnumbered!I agree,i too like long beds over shortys but hey a subtle customised medium bed would be worth a look at i think and it will still fit my 88 Harley in.It looked right on the 59 apache and improved proportions.thanks for youre opinions

If I did that, I'd go about it the hard way. Take maybe 4" out of the wheelbase and 6" out of the rear. It would look very proportional and if done well, most people won't have a clue what's going on. It will look different, but not different.

Longhorn trucks had wood beds and were 8'-6". They were da bomb, you could build a gas tank to fit in the bed, in front of the camper.

Look for "Bobbed" trucks and you will find information.
The rock crawlers do it a lot of time for the better approach and departure angles.

The ones that look even goofier are the pinched ones.
They do all these mods on the 1:10 scale RC Trucks that I run as well.
That is some dedication.
You can see it on my buddies orange and blue trucks here.
Mine is the red truck and my sons is the black bronco.
