Long tube headers/dual exhaust question

I just had long tube headers and 2 1/2" dual exhaust put on my 87R10, but I wanted to know if I should put an H pipe on it or just leave it? An X pipe would be a lot more work. Would it be any better or the same leaving it as is or not. Thank you.

H pipe is /wincity.
Your truck will "level up" for.sure. and you may kick yourself for not doing it sooner because it sounds F- AWESOME!

*This is the 2.25" system in my '88 Blazer 4x4.

I actually prefer the sound of a dual exhaust small block with a little bit of cam and no H pipe.

I have no valuable input in regards to power or efficiency of either set up. Allegedly a properly placed H or X scavenges better

I love my h- pipe. The only truck I may not do it to is my grandpas truck since I want it to be like the good old days.

But personally i hate the small block popcorn. Especially 90's chevys. Straight pipe 90's Chevys makes me wanna ****** puke lol. With full length exhaust that is. Ear piercing blap blap blap blap. Sounds like their boyfriends ******** in a tunnel. The h-pipe really cleans up the exhaust noise and makes a small block sound mean with full exhaust. Even dumped before the rear tires, a stock motor with h-pipe doesn't sound like a turd.

Also its super easy to install.

I was experiencing horrible drone at 30 mph so installed the crossover. Mellowed just enough to kill the drone and enjoy cruising around town. I made it so it will come apart so one side or the other can be removed without fighting with both.

H pipe will give a very small performance increase. not worth it IMHO.

I've installed an H-pipe on one vehicle, and an X-pipe on another. Have to say I didn't notice much difference in sound or seat-of-the-pants performance. But it stands to reason that back pressure will be somewhat reduced with two paths for an exhaust pulse to follow.

I didn't watch the Engine Masters video above, but those guys are mostly concerned about peak horsepower at high RPMs, and sometimes get all giddy if an engine makes another 5 hp after some modification. Every once in a while they do mention the torque curve and drivability, but not very often.

"H" pipe will give a lower growl, but like everybody else says........unless you got some serious ponys...........forget about it. You won't notice any performance difference on a stock engine. Only sound change. "X" pipes sound too 'tinny" for me. Just my opinion.
Also another good chance of a leak unless its welded in properly.

Unless you're over 300 horse, I'd leave it the way you have it. More ponys? Go "H" pipe.

I'm putting a BLUEPRINT 540 horse 427 small block in my rig and going with 3" pipe all the way, WITH an H pipe. She needs to breathe easy.

I have doug thorley long headers with big pipes and summit long turbo mufflers with short curved down tips dumping right before the rear axle . No H pipe, been running for over 20 years, :gr_grin:. H pipe is just extra crap in the way. No real world advantage. Hot rodders and racers survived for decades without a H piped exhaust pipes.

Are those Flowmaster 40's? If so.........do you like the sound?
