What's the story on USA1? I was going to order some vinyl dye and cab mounts from them.

The problem with USA1 is they take your money immediately but then cannot supply the item. They’ll say 16 weeks and 18 months later you’re still waiting. You question them and they’ll say it will ship in one week or one month, but of course it doesn’t.

For some items such as paint you may get it in a few weeks, but for dash pads, door panels and other big ticket items the wait can extend to years. A couple of years ago I ordered a dash pad in July. A cancelled it 18 months later and ordered from Cheyenne Truck. 8 days after I ordered I installed my new dash.

@molus, that’s incredible. I’m not familiar with coverlay and filler option. Do you have a handy links?

I just googled dash filler compound and bought from my local auto shop (I’m in New Zealand.)

I bought a dash pad from USA1, fit was a pain, the metal for the upper corner dash bezel screw clips is just two small pieces somewhat bonded in the corners, had to make my own and bond them in the proper place, pad had to be trimmed everywhere to work. Never never will I use USA1 again!!!!!!!!!!!!

So what I learned today….

Both Dashes Direct and Just Dashes dye their dashes to the required color. None use vinyl made in the correct color. Not sure why as dying the product takes time and money, but can assume our colors are not readily available.

Cheyenne Trucks is making dashes for the 81-87 trucks now. The dash for my 75 will follow. No time table given.

Yes, the seats and center console are stock for the K5. This setup must have been one of the earlier factory interiors to include cup holders. Surprisingly most of the center console is cast metal, with fiberglass at the very bottom where it bolts to the floor.

Yup I was surprised how much of the early style console is cast metal. The OBS torpedo style is plastic, and they are easy to break.

A couple weeks ago I purchased a dash from Jegs since it was discounted $145, ordered dark brown and they delivered black, sent it back and they resent dark brown. The black one arrived in a sealed bag, the brown one did not and it had grinding dust so it appeared used. I called to ask why and they offered another $60 off so I took it. It actually looks driver quality although I didn’t install it yet. I see both metal framing and rubbery vinyl from the inside. It should look a little better than the cracked stocker which I will probably try to recover it myself one day. I figured I would easily have a day or two in labor trying to do this and likely won’t look any better than the driver quality Jegs dash so I took the bait. I’m not sure who manufactured it, it’s definitely not “dyed” painted.

Does it cover the bottom of the driver's side end, that you can only see with the door open?
I've seen some that don't.

Yes it covered the whole thing. The only thing i didn’t really like was the holes drilled where the centre speaker is but you can’t really see them once it’s installed.
