Wondering if I need a whole re-seal or just get it rebuilt. Leaking right where the bell housing mates to the trans. Shifts fine, drives fine, just gotta keep an eye on the level. How hard is it to do yourself?

You would have to pull the trans, it'll most likely be the front shaft seal. Not hard to do other than pulling the actual trans, it just unbolts, there's another access hole in the front too I believe.

awesome! This was what I was hoping; something I can handle. I’ve replaced the motor in this, and dropped trans in my other truck before, so I think I can tackle this. Thank you!

I would start first by giving it a pretty thorough wash and degrease. Then drive it for a while, inspecting it frequently, to see where it's originating.

For sure check your top cover as well, could be seeping from the top. This could easily be leaking down the mating surface of the bell housing.

Inspect the bearings, and reseal the easy stuff, I would just because you're already there.

If you are interested in how hard it is to do a rebuild, this guy knows his stuff.

I did mine and it came out good for a few hundred bucks.
