My -84 C-10 is leaking gas along the frame rail between the pump and the tank selector valve.
It seems improbable to me that it has a leak in the metal fuel line, but can't see any real alternative.....

It's not super likely but also not impossible, these things are 40+ years old now so if the metal line was rubbing anywhere or got some dirt/crap stuck up against it, it could've rubbed a hole or rusted out.

But what's more likely is a section of rubber hose is leaking where it meets the metal one. No way to know without getting under and inspecting everything close.

There is a metal clamp on the frame rail side just ahead of the tranny cross member...........
Seems to be the forward terminus........but runs toward the rear past the cross member.......
Odd........

If it was a hole in the feed line, you wouldn't be able to pump any gas... it would just be sucking air. It is most likely either the weep hole in the bottom of the pump or a leak in the return line. There are two rubber lines from the frame rail to the pump and two more from the metal line to the switching valve. I'd start there.

Mine was leaking in the same spot. Return line rusted just ahead of the rubber hose. There is the feed, return, vent and brake lines all clamped together. Good place for dirt to collect and hold moisture.

Pull the rubber hose at each end leave the rubber attached to the suspect line, put a bolt in rubber hose as a stopper squirt everything with dish soap and water hit the other rubber hose with some air pressure. Look for bubbles. Just blow some air in it,don't clamp the compressor hose to it.

Am I safe to use regular fuel hose along the frame rail from selector valve to fuel pump,
or do I need to use something shielded?

So far, the only source I have found for a pre-bent steel fuel line is LMC.
They are verifying that their line can be used with my dual tank setup.
Not too expensive itself, but shipping is high.. The longest 3/8" steel tube I have found is 6' and that isn't long enough..... Any suggestions?

I tried that.........I was told that this item, understandably, carries a $20.00 oversize charge, and that the base shipping price is tied to the dollar value of the order... So, the more you purchase, the higher the shipping, and would still have that surcharge....

NEWS FLASH !!!!! LMC TRUCK IS AN BRANCH OF THE CIA!!

Tho they show connecting fuel/return lines to connect between the dual tanks, they show ONLY 1 tank to pump line. They do NOT specify if for dual tanks.
So, I called them................
They would neither confirm nor deny that it will work.............

I believe it is one supply and one return between the pump and selector valve back by the tanks.

I've bought longer steel lines than that, but NBD buy a 3ft,6ft whatever and replace what's bad to what's good or join multiple steel lines. They aren't under pressure or not much pressure depending on how the tanks vented and temperature. Anyway you could join the lines with threaded couplers, compression unions or even just short pieces of rubber fuel hose and clamps. Butt 2 steel lines together inside 3 inches of rubber hose. I haven't measured, but are you sure 6 foot won't do pump to selector valve?

I plugged in 1984 Chevy C10 on Summit and entered fuel lines and got hits for pre-bent lines. I added to cart to estimate shipping, I didn't see any surcharge like LMC has. Might try Summit Racing
