Does anyone know if front shackles off a k10 Suburban are the same as k20 shackles? I would think that the k20 would be heavier duty but maybe…?

Thanks!

They are the same.

Starting in '87 or '88 though, they grew in length by .5 inch.

So no problems interchanging them? For example, k10 shackles with k20 springs.

I forgot to add, besides the length change, the spring bolt size changed too.

So as long as both rigs are the same version, there's no difference between K10 and K20.

Heres another question (please forgive my stupidity)
Will a 19(89-91) ? suburban k2500 GM 10 bolt axle and springs fit on a 1984 c20 frame?
Im ok with making a few modifications and what not but want to make sure it will even start to line up.
Thanks

For converting a 2wd frame to 4x4, it involves a lot of rivet busting, hole drilling and some modifications. It can be done, but most people just use a 4x4 frame.

Yeah I’ve been looking for a good 4x4 frame but just kind of want the challenge of converting a 2wd to 4x4.
I’ve got a buddy who has done at least one or two complete 4x4 conversions and is working on another. It can be done, so I’m going to try it.

You will either need parts from a donor, or buy parts from an aftermarket supplier such as Offroad Design.

I’ve got a few junk yards around me with lots of trashed on squares. Fortunately the undersides are pretty much damage and rust free. My buddy is giving me the front of a k series for a basic template to start with.

I just used the rear 56' springs from a '91 Sub V10 on an '87 V10 pickup that was '52 springs. Knocked out the rivets & drilled the hole to 7/16 & bolted the shackle back in as the holes were already there.

Wow that looks like a lot of holes in the frame rail! I wonder if mine will have the holes already there. I believe the springs I’m using for the back are 56” with around a 4” lift

The holes were already punched. I just removed the rivets & slid the shackle back 4". Pic is still the "52 spring but shackle relocated.

Are those new bolts just a standard bolt, washer, and nut or did you use a huck bolt?

Regular Grade 5 bolts. The washers could've been a bit smaller circumference & they wouldn't have crushed like they did. When they get some black paint on them they'll not be noticeable.
I've got all the K30 shackles front & rear to do my 79 C30 dually too. Lots of air-hammering & grinding ahead of me...
