Junk cab

I love it when you start getting a game plan together and realize the cab floor support channels need replaced (note the angle iron, no bolts into the cab on one of them)

and you also wonder what other hack jobs have been done to it .

Has anyone replaced floor support channels? Should I tackle the job or look for another cab that will need repairs too? I'm in Michigan so I don't see low rust cabs off trucks and for sale.

I am curious where the support channels are welded to the floor since there are no beads from what I can see.

Seems like just surface rust. If you aren't Fred Flintstoning it, or have road signs as a floor, then your cab is pretty solid as far as squares are concerned.

I'm talking about the cab floor support channels, they run parallel with the frame and attach to the cab front and back. I planned on doing the cab supports you're talking about...then I saw the floor supports.

Thanks. That's what I was talking about. As usual I was overthinking it.

This is what I did. I used galvanized angle iron and new mount supports.

It sucks I have a cab in the backyard with good supports that I would fix up instead but no title.

Hey... I have lots of floor signs and you can work it easy...... my dad fixed his floor with a stop sign... lmao. He put a lot of work into it, too, since he didnt have a welder. The cab is so shot around the driver door that Its hard to tell if its worth fixing IMHO.

Also remember, Im considering fixing my floor with wood.

But I also dont use mine on the road.

I think because signs arent gonna rust and they are also rather durable for their thickness and the fact they are usually flat in a sheet is why they work well. I only have a ton of signs because my grandpa used to do road sign replacements and either stole the old signs or they let you take them back then. A huge "ROAD CONSTRUCTION AHEAD" sign I bent into a ski to move my car with a locked brake caliper in the snow.

I definitely used highway signs in the floor of my 73 Impala. I think my pops had some in his beater VW as well.
