4.3 with 2.56's and 35's... While the gearing may work out in 2nd on the highway, the truck WILL NOT like leaving from a stop. Getting rolling would be incredibly slow and you will likely overheat the trans in the process.

I will suggest a crazy idea though. Install a th350 with a shorter output shaft to accept an np205 transfer case. Then use low range for towing. I'm sure it will still require taller rear tires to get the rpm right, but at least the truck will have the balls to get moving.

I just don't understand why anyone would run 35" tires on a 2 wheel drive, with a 6 cylinder and 2.56 gears, period.

Stewart G Griffin, aka fussfeld, is now trying to diagnose his TH350 slipping in all 3 gears if anyone is interested. My suggestion to him would be to buy a Toyota and be done with the problems a 40 year old vehicle presents. He doesn’t take advice so he won’t do that though.
