I've heard ppl do it. I never do, but it can't hurt I wouldn't think.

The last couple sets of fel-pro intakes I bought had a bead made in the gasket around the ports. it was pretty cool. it works too because we put on the intake, and it was an alum. we had laying around, went to put on the water neck and a bolt broke, then tried to remove a heater hose fitting and the intake cracked, so we had to pull it. Once pulled you could see the beads left around the ports.

I still need to know if I get the open or blocked port ones though.....

If you get Felpro, they come with both gasket end for early and late SBC, and also come with restrictor plates to lower the flow. If its not a hi performance motor and is a stocker, I'd go open. Also depnends on what type of choke you have too. IF you are using a hot water choke stove on the manifold and the water doesn't flow, then of course your choke will stay on not detecting hot water until the motor is hot enough to feel the heat off the intake. Also, if you have to do emmisions testing, the hot water will vaporize the fuel better and so you have a better cleaner ignition. Of course for performance in a street/strip car, you don't want your fuel hot, but daily driver, I say go open. JMO.

Ok, I just actually ordered online from Advance Auto Parts. Paid with Pay Pal, got a 15% discount, and will pickup at my local store this afternoon.

So I got:

Mr. Gasket Intake Kit #5821 - $13.99
Felpro Valve Cover set #VS50088 - $16.99
Felpro Thermostat Gasket #35062 - $1.49
Stant 195* Thermostat #13359 - $4.99
Purolator PCV Valve #PV774 - $2.99
Dayco Idler/Tensioner Pulley #89007 - $17.99

Total purchase price with PA state tax and local store p/u is $52.65.

At that price for the Tstat, its not a FailSafe, but I am sure not pleased with my failsafe. That's what I get for getting the AutoZone brand and not a Stant. Of course it never left me stranded or overheated, but I didn't have a damn heater. As I posted in Clean's heater thread, I just installed a Mr. Gasket balanced 180 in my 454 non computer carbed truck. The failsafe was stuck wide ass open, and it was just this past summer that I installed it. However, I did fix it. It had oepend up to far and got hung on the stop. So I'll use it MAYBE on another vehicle and see how it does. It does it again, I'll trash it.

I always get the Stant brand. I've always had good luck with those tstats.
