Ecm was commanding injectors at full duty cycle to make up for the loss in pressure, then when it realized it was rich, it backed it off....thats why the surge.

Also explains why no CEL light too. Once the Temp Sensor was replaced, then no reason for a code.

Hmmmm..... Ok, what was the deal with the air cleaner? just the heat riser hose?
Fuel leaks
As far as the cat reading, that may be a result of weeks of trying to diagnose, without a good daybor so of driving to clean it out, and I do understand that was not possible to do, since you just fixed it yesterday.
the first thing obviousely, is the trans issue.
then I would go through everything that didnt pass on that list, starting with setting timing back to 0*
Maybe the fuel cap from the 88 is in better shape?
Dump a gallon of laquer thinner in the tank, and run that bitch at 1500 rpm for about 1/2 hour. Will he do a free re test?

Timing was at zero when testing I have the other transmission that I will be putting in on my next day off from work thankfully I have that transmission still and I'll go through everything I can when I can
