Hi all:

I'm now getting going on this. I'm getting confused, looking at the OP's pictures. So in the initial stage, where he's stretching the t shirt, what side of the panel is he on, the front, or the back? He says to cover the whole panel, but then, you can see the bare wood, on the front, after he's done the t shirt thing, and spread some resin. So is the resin at that stage, just to lock the new wood panel to the plastic rim?

I may not post much , but I'm around. If anyone has any questions post it, or send me a PM. I'm happy to share what little I know. And thanks for the support and comments guys.

Is this man still around? It was almost 10 years ago when this thread was made.

I'd like to ask a question... Has anybody done what he did, but made the panels look factory? Basically just cover a panel in factory colored vinyl, and make cut outs for all the trim. And everything else that needs to go on the door panel. I want to save my factory panels, but they are old and crusty.

I also wonder if there would be any fitment issues. Are they a bit harder to put on, after being covered in vinyl?

It shows the last time he was on was april 15th 2021. I have not done my panels as of yet so I dont know. Ima do kind of a custom job with a speaker where there is a pocket on some.

I know this is a door panel thread, but it's worth mentioning that the same heating method can be used to expertly repair a cracked dash. As we all know these factory dashes are very prone to cracking. Generally speaking they just don't hold up over time. However, if you could heat the vinyl just right, you could repair a factory dash and it would look pretty good. There used to be a company that would repair them, they had some big machine that did it all at once. Don't know if they're still around though.

I logged on hoping to find a decent pair of used door panels but now that I've seen this I may quit looking. I was trying to make mine look better today but the po had used regular paint on them and by the time I got the paint off the surface looked terrible. Thanks for posting this.
